Phonon Lasers in Cavity Optomechanics

Abstract

Mechanical amplification by stimulated phonon emission is reviewed in two optomechanical systems: an optical resonator system and a trapped-ion system. The physics of these devices and observations of threshold and line narrowing are presented.
