Abstract

To optimize the signal-to-noise ratio of optically trapped nano-particles in high vacuum, we implemented a heterodyne interferometer to monitor particle motion in a backscattering configuration. The signal relays to a feedback loop that cools the nano-particle to sub-Kelvin temperatures.
