Abstract

This talk will cover recent developments in the use of femtosecond pulse shaping technology for collecting 2D IR and 2D Vis spectra and their applications to biophysical and energy related topics. Specifically, a new design for a dual-channel shaper that operates in the mid-infrared will be described that can simultaneously shape two laser beams. It will be shown how such a shaper can be used to create pulse trains for collecting 2D spectra with programmed polarizations. Polarization is useful for optimizing 2D signals, measuring the angles between transition dipoles, and coherently controlling vibrational responses, as will be shown. Experiments in which it is applied to study amyloid protein formation and electron transfer at interfaces will also be presented.
