Exploring the Quantum Limit in Gravitational Wave Detection

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We describe experiments in which radiation pressure forces are used to optically trap and cool macroscopic oscillators, and discuss applications of this technique to gravitational-wave detection, and to observation of quantum effects involving macroscopic mechanical oscillators.
