Schlieren Imaging of Salt Concentration Gradients around a KDP Crystal Growing from its Aqueous Solution

Abstract

Concentration gradients around a KDP crystal growing from its aqueous solution are measured using a laser-schlieren technique. The 3D field is determined using an algebraic reconstruction algorithm. Gradients on faces of the crystal are seen to correlate well with the respective growth rates.
