Abstract
Using a femtosecond Ti:Sapphire laser pairs of tracks of material damage were written into Yb:YAG (7% Yb) crystals. Due to stress induced birefringence waveguiding was achieved in a channel between the tracks. Pumped at a wavelength of 941 nm, laser oscillation at a wavelength of 1030 nm was demonstrated with an output power of 719 mW at 1223 mW of launched pump power. The slope efficiency was 76%.
