Abstract

We review the key scientific and technological results that underlie the development of hollow-core photonic crystal fiber and its gas-filled form the photonic microcell. We stress their enabling powers in any gas-laser based applications and the potential of Inhibited Coupling guiding hollow-core photonic crystal fiber as a future alternative to conventional optical fiber in long haul telecommunications.
