Ray-based Picture of Propagation-invariant Beams

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Beams whose transverse intensity profile is preserved under propagation up to a rigid transformation (scaling, rotation, or displacement), such as HG, LG, IG, Airy and Bessel beams, are described in terms of rays. This description clarifies their behavior and shows a surprising amount of hidden geometry. Article not available.
