Electromagnetically-Induced Phase Grating

Abstract

Exploiting the giant Kerr nonlinearity associated with electromagnetically induced transparency, an atomic phase grating created with arbitrarily weak fields is proposed. Almost 30% of a probe beam can be diffracted into the first diffraction order.
