Abstract

As the rapid development and the wide application of terahertz technology, the research of the terahertz modulation device is becoming more and more important. Metallic subwavelength electromagnetic structures attract much attention owing to their excellent modulation characteristics in microwave and terahertz band. In this talk, we present several typical terahertz modulation devices such as THz polarizer, THz filter, THz attenuator, and THz polarization Conversion based on the metallic microstructures. The spectral properties of these metallic microstructures are simulated and measured experimentally. The size dependence of terahertz transmission of these metallic functional materials is analyzed and confirmed experimentally. The frequency selectivity of THz devices is illumined numerically. Some practical instructions on the design and fabrication of these THz devices are given. Finally, we discuss the present difficulties and future prospects of THz components.
