Abstract

A near - field focusing element (NFFE) integrated on a planar waveguide has been developed and applied to the writing and reading of marks in a phase - change material. Using a NFFE fabricated on a Ta2O5 waveguide, we have recorded marks with dimensions of λ / 4 with high optical efficiency.
