Abstract

We have developed 2.4X speed rewritable media (i.e. user data transfer rate of 87.72 Mbps) having the user data capacity of 20 GB for HD DVD system. In order to achieve higher speed recording, we used the bismuth substituted pseudo-binary GeTe-Sb2Te3 alloy recording film and suitable interface layers. As the amount of the bismuth substitution increased, the erase ratio of the media improved at the recording speed of 2.4X. We have demonstrated the recording characteristics of the rewritable media at the data recording speed of 1X–2.4X.
