Abstract

We present a transient model of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a high-power fiber amplifier. This model combines SBS and rate equations and is solved in time domain, using the method of characteristics. The results quantify the transient behaviors of pump, signal, and Brillouin Stokes powers, which can be a measure of signal bandwidth.
