Abstract
We use a coherent-mode representation to characterize the statistical properties of supercontinuum light generated in nonlinear fibers. We show that in general the coherence properties of supercontinuum light can be represented as the finite sum of coherent modes where the first few terms represent the quasi-coherent part of the field and additional modes account for the quasi-stationary part of the supercontinuum field.
