Abstract
The introduction of photonic crystals in optical cavities of nonlinear devices can have drastic effects on the spatio-temporal output of the light intensity. We have already reported on the elimination of modulational instabilities that lead to the generation of higher order cavity modes [1]. Such suppression is intrinsically connected to the presence of band-gap for the transverse propagation of light in a cavity with a modulated refractive index.
