Abstract

Instabilities in nonlinear extended media have been the subject of multiple theoretical and experimental investigations; however, it seems that the dynamics resulting from the mutual coupling of such systems has been barely studied. To our knowledge, coupled one-dimensional complex Ginzburg-Landau equations (CGLE) have been theoretically studied by Amengual and co-workers in the perspective of spatio-temporal synchronization [1], and spatial and temporal symmetry-breaking have been predicted by Babushkin et al. in mutually coupled Maxwell-Bloch optical systems [2].
