Polarization drift control in fibers for entangled polarization-encoded qubits

Abstract

A future quantum information system will have to generate entanglement, distribute it and use a physical property of the quantum system (qubit) for measurement or storage. Simple and efficient setups for generation and measurement of polarization encoded qubits are nowadays used in many research centers, but the distribution of polarization-encoded qubits needs more attention1. If air is used for transmission as in free-space systems, no additional polarization disturbance is observed. Transmission distances of 144km have recently been reported.
