Abstract
Because of their crucial role in quantum networks, considerable attention has recently been given to quantum memories for light. The storage of single photons in large atomic ensembles have recently been achieved. On the other hand, in the continuous-variable regime, a light-atom transfer using a QND-type interaction and a magnetic feedback has been proposed and succesfully implemented by E. Polzik’s group. But storage and retrieval with a fidelity higher than classical is still missing.
