New water solutions for dye lasers

Abstract

Potentially the most favorable solute for flash- lamp pumped dye lasers is the water because of its best thermo-optical, chemical and toxicological properties. Unfortunately the majority of dyes in the water are either photochemically unstable or have very low solubility or form dimers. In the last few years inclusion complexes of fluorescent dyes with cyclodextrines were reported [1-3]. Important property of such complexes is their high solubility in water. In this paper we present the results of investigation of spectroscopic and laser properties of “guest-host” inclusion complexes of β- cyclodextrine (β-CD) with Rhodamine 6G and amino-coumarins in water and heavy water solutions.
