Annihilation dynamics of the luminescence in oriented poly- (phenylene vinylene)

Abstract

Recently conugated polymers have attracted much attention as active materials for effective and easy to produce luminescent devices. The dynamics and efficiency fo the photoluminescence are therefore of prime importance. We report on time resolved luminescence experiments performed in oriented samples of poly-(phenylenevinylene) (PPV). Strong dependencies of the PL-efficiency on lattice temperature, excitation density and polarization of the excitation are observed. Temperature activated transport (into nonradiative traps) as well as an additional luminescence quenching channel (probably due to singlet-singlet exciton annihilation) can be deduced from the data.
