Abstract

The phenomenon of normal mode coupling (NMC) also called vacuum Rabi splitting was first obseved in atomic cavities and later in semiconductor microcavities. Keeping possible applications of NMC in microcavities in mind, it is important to understand what happens to NMC as the carrier density increases towards the vertical cavity surface emitting laser operating regime. Reported CW measurements show a decrease of the splitting and a broadening of the NMC levels [1][2], In this paper we present nonlinear measurements of time-resolved Rabi oscillations in a semiconductor quantum-well microcavity.
