Parametric simultons

Abstract

The basic coupled equations describing the χ(2) nonlinerality in the presence of dispersion of diffraction have a wide range of solitary-wave solutions. Of most interest are the non-spreading, closely coupled nonlinear wave solutions with near phasematching (and equal group velocities), which can be termed ‘simultons’. When the equations are used to describe spatial solitary waves, there is now experimental verification of this behaviour - both in one and two transverse dimensions. The temporal versions of these solitary waves are yet to be experimentally observed.
