Abstract

Upconversion in rare-earth ions such as Nd3+, Ho3+, Tm3+, Yb3+/Tm3+, Er3+, Yb3+/Er3+-doped fibres recently draws much attention mainly for the possibility to develop visible fibre superfluorescence sources and laser sources pumped in the near infrared, Recently, fluorescence from 4S3/2 and 2H11/2 has been reported as a result of intermediate excited-state absorption when they are pumped at 980 nm.
