Abstract

Efficient free running and frustrated total internal reflection (FTIR) [1] Q-switched operation of a flashlamp pumped CrEr:YSGG laser at two different wavelengths is demonstrated. When using resonator mirrors with low wavelength dependence of the reflectivity, the Cr:Er:YSGG laser is known to oscillate at 2.79 μm [2]. The lasing wave length of 2.70 μm has been established in a dispersive resonator formed by specially coated interference filters [3]. A free running generation efficiency of up to 1% for 2.79 μm and 0.5% for 2.70 μm has been achieved (Fig. 1). The lasing properties of the 2.70 μm laser transition are discussed.
