Abstract

The 1S-2S two-photon transition in hydrogen has played a major role in fundamental physics for the measurement of the Lamb shift and the Rydberg constant. This line can also yield a precise and accurate frequency standard besides being attractive for research towards Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in trapped hydrogen.
