Abstract
Optical frequency (or wavelength) converters have recently been the subject of intense research interest, because of their potential importance in multiwavelength lightwave communications networks. This paper will review techniques for all-optical frequency conversion, particularly those based on semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA’s), and will discuss some of their potential applications.
