Abstract

Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in three-level cascade-type and Λ-type atomic systems with cw diode lasers have been experimentally demonstrated in recent years. [1,2] The EIT effect has applications in lasing without population inversion, nonlinear optical processes, and atomic spectroscopy [3]. In this paper, we present a detail study of noise properties in three- level cascade-type and A-type atomic systems. Experiments are carried out to measure the noise spectrum of the weak probe field with and without the coupling field. The experimental results will be compared with the theoretical calculations. Correlations between different atomic states are studied.
