Abstract
We generated a super-wide-band coherent white light [1] by self-phase modulation of atmospheric rare gas media. Ultra-short pulse high peak power Ti:sapphire lasers made it possible to realise the long-path interaction between high intensity pulses and nonlinear media, because they produced the self-organised optical filaments in rare gases. The long-path interaction more than meters gave the ideal condition for spectral broadening due to self-phase modulation. In this paper we report that flat- spectrum super-wide-band coherent white light generation covering vacuum ultraviolet to infrared wavelength.
