Abstract
The manipulation of long unfolded single strands of DNA could be a useful analytic tool for biologists. For example, markers such as fluorescent tags can be used for submicron locators of genes. The location of cuts on a long segment of DNA made by restriction enzymes can also be determined. Coupled with the ability to visualize a single unwoven strand of the DNA in fluorescence, the possibility of making real time measurements of repair, replication, etc. may also be possible.
