Abstract

Sanchez-Mondragon et al.1 investigated the interaction of a cavity strongly coupled to a two-level atom and predicted that the spontaneous emission spectrum of the coupled system was a doublet. This splitting was named the vacuum field Rabi splitting because the splitting occurred even when the field was in the vacuum state.
