Abstract
In the past 20 years many processes have been employed to excite electronic states in atoms or ions in solids. Among these processes, the one of particular interest here is a transfer of energy between two different species of atoms, interacting and simultaneously absorbing light. This process in atomic physics, referred to as laser-induced collision, was proposed theoretically1,2 and experimentally observed3 in the last decade.
