Radiative recombination in CdTe/MnTe quantum wells: emission from near infrared to blue wavelengths

Abstract

One of the principal challenges with any quantum well system is exploitation of the confinement effects over the largest possible energy range. Frequently, finite barrier heights, band structural aspects (e.g., Γ to X crossover in GaAlAs), and technological reasons impede, especially in the limit of thin quantum well layers. We have studied unusually robust confinement effects in a new (type I) quantum well, based on the CdTe/MnTe heterostructure.
