Abstract

Over the last few years the technique of optical harmonic generation (SHG) has been convincingly demonstrated in a variety of experiments at interfaces between gases, liquids, and solids.1 We report the first experimental results on the deposition of Si and Ge on Si(001) studied with SHG. The experiments were performed in a vacuum system equipped with reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and SHG facilities.
