Abstract
Saturated absorption spectroscopy was used to determine the 171 Yb and 173Yb hyperfine coupling constants and the even isotope shifts for the 62P3 /2 State of Yb+. We are currently investigating the hyper-fine splitting of excited States of Yb+ as part of our effort to develop a laser excited microwave frequency standard. The hyper-fine structure of the 62P3/2 resonance State was studied to determine its potential as an optical pumping transition for the ground State, which has a hyperfine splitting of 12.64 GHz.1
