Intensity Noise Reduction in Semiconductor Lasers by Amplitude-Phase Decorrelation

Abstract

Gain spectrum detuning in semiconductor lasers couples lasing field amplitude and phase fluctuations. We use this nonlinearity to reduce intensity noise by 10.8 dB below its intrinsic limit. Application to squeezed state generation is discussed.
