Abstract

Recombination pumping of population inversion in rapidly cooled ions has been studied for more than 10 years as an inherently efficient approach to generating short wavelength coherent radiation. However, it is only recently that experimental facilities became available to investigate optimization of the short wavelength recombination lasers.
