Multipass etalon coupled conjugated amplifier

Abstract

A novel regenerative amplifier, suitable for efficient extraction from low gain high saturation fluence media, has been designed and tested. The cavity is totally passive and formed by an etalon and a stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) cell (Fig. 1). The master oscillator light is tuned to a transmission window of the etalon and trapped in the cavity because of the SBS frequency shift Introduced on the beam. By adjusting the etalon free spectral range to correspond to an integral number of SBS frequency shifts, the tight can be efficiently coupled out of the cavity after a selected number of round trips (Fig. 2). There are several advantages to this cavity including: (1) it is totally passive and does not require electro-optic switching; (2) there are no limitations on the injected pulse width; (3) phase conjugation on each round trip corrects medium aberrations.
