Abstract

Although the spectra of carbon-group atoms have been studied in extensive experimental and theoretical work, only a few work have been reported on the study of highly excited even-parity states. 1,2 We present new results of studies on the spectroscopy of atomic lead in even-parity Rydberg series. 3 Employing resonant two—photon excitation in the ultraviolet and time-of- flight measurement of ionization signal, the spectra of even-parity Rydberg series 6pnp(l/2,1/2)0 (n=10~27), 6pnp(1/2,3/2)2 (n=10~41) and 6pnf1/2(5/2)2 (n=7~27) have been obtained at a resolution better than 0.5cm -1. The spectra have been identified experimentally by means of changing the polarization of laser from a linear to a circular polarization. Figure 1 shows as an example a section of the spectrum in the range of 335nm~360nm.
