Collision dynamics of laser-induced radiative association in an ensemble of very cold sodium atoms

Abstract

We consider molecule formation by a two-step process: free-bound absorption followed by reemission to a stable bound state or to a continuum. Calculations are carried out on the Na system by applying the theory of laser-induced collisions proposed by Julienne and Mies to an ensemble of laser-cooled Na atoms at 10−3 K. The process can take place within either the singlet or triplet manifold of molecular states. Consider, for example, the singlet manifold.
