Prospects for free-electron laser operation in the extreme ultraviolet

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Continued progress by several research groups is increasing the near-term prospects for free-electron laser (FEL) operation into the extreme UV and soft x-ray regions. For wavelengths longer than 1 nm, these devices hold the promise of greatly exceeding the spectral brightness of the present generation of broadly tunable synchrotron light sources.
