Abstract

Lasers without strong polarization-dependent losses can oscillate on two orthogonal polarizations simultaneously. The frequency splitting of a single-longitudinal dual-polarization mode is determined by the optical anisotropy of the cavity and may be used to form the basis of intracavity polarimetry. We report on the development of such a polarimeter in which the frequency difference is measured using a beat frequency and countertechnique.
