High-order multiphoton optical excitation of free cyclotron electrons

Abstract

In an earlier work,1 it was shown by one of the authors that a large hysteretic cyclotron motion of a free electron can be excited by two laser beams with their frequencies much higher than a cyclotron frequency Ωc and differing either by Ωc (three-photon resonance) or 2Ωc (four-photon resonance). Here we consider the feasibility of arbitrary order multiphoton excitation of free electron cyclotron resonance by a biharmonic laser radiaton with two frequencies ω1 and ω2 so that ω1ω2nΩc, where n is an arbitrary integer.
