Abstract
We have calculated the refractive-index changes (Δn) induced by a perpendicular electric field in quantum wells. The calculation is based on electroabsorption data taken from previous measurements on a two-quantum-well waveguide modulator.1 Our approach was to take the difference between the absorption spectra with and without the field and apply the Kramers-Kronig relations to obtain the refractive-index changes.
