Abstract

More than a decade ago Bonifacio et al.1 derived a master equation in the Born and Markov approximation that made possible numerical solutions for an arbitrary number of atoms in collective spontaneous emission in a resonant damped cavity. In spite of the fact that these numerical solutions have shown important new effects (e.g., large atom-atom correlations), the validity of the results was restricted to low-Q cavities (strong cavity damping).
