Abstract
The close coupled theory of collisions in a radiation field provides a natural tool for studying the interaction of light with colliding atoms. Since the radiative and collisional interactions are treated equivalently in the set of coupled equations, the theory allows us to calculate the distribution of excited atomic product states which result from the nonadiabatic dynamics following photon absorption during an atomic collision.
