Abstract
Absolute cross-sectional measurements are essential if nonlinear processes such as multiphoton ionization are to be understood in a quantitative way. They can also have important applications for the detection of reactive atoms and molecules. Atomic oxygen, an important species in the chemistry of flames, plasmas, and the atmosphere, is an appropriate subject for such a measurement.
