Abstract

We report the results of studying a promising new active medium for tunable lasers, namely, LiF4 color center crystals. The optical characteristics of the color centers in LiF4 have not been studied enough. Luminescence of the color centers has not been observed at all, and of several universal absorption bands with maxima at 340, 440, 550, 840 nm, forming as a result of γ irradiation of the LiYF4 crystals at 300 K, only one 340-nm band was identified, which is caused by the F centers.1,2
