Abstract
The principle and properties for the second harmonic mode locking of an Ar-ion laser are described. In our experiment, there are two light pulses in the Ar-ion laser cavity at any time, and the mode spacing for the second harmonic mode locking of an Ar-ion laser is twice that of the fundamental and equals ~210 MHz. This improves by a factor of ~ 2 the average output power of the Ar-ion laser.
