Undamped relaxation oscillation on the passive Q-switching pulse of a CO2 laser

Abstract

It is well known that passive Q-switching (PQS) occurs in a CO2 laser when a gaseous saturable absorber is introduced into the laser cavity. We observed a peculiar undulation, superposed on the quasi-cw tail of the PQS pulse using HCOOH gas as a saturable absorber (Fig. 1).
