Alternating polarization laser: a new scheme of laser oscillation

Abstract

The polarization plane of a laser beam can be rotated by an external device such as a Faraday rotator or by a Pockels cell if the switching angle is an integral multiple of 90°. However, it is difficult to switch such devices with very high frequency, especially a Faraday rotator. Moreover, it is impossible to increase the rotational angle continuously.
